I did a post like this when Felicity was a newborn and our routine has changed A LOT since then.
I find these routine posts interesting – partly inspired by Danielle’s post at ooh breathe, just breathe – so here goes ours again. (Note: after reading hers I’m not sure I’m up for marathon training with a one-year-old.)
The big change as of late, of course, is that I went back to work two weeks ago. Felicity is going to day care starting next week, so this is a temporary routine, but one that we’ve fit into quite handily after seven days.
Before 6 am – Liss usually wakes up twice a night to feed (after a 5-hour stretch, then a 3-hour stretch), but since about 6 weeks, she’s slept in her own room and she will go right back to sleep after nursing. I know not all parents have a baby this regular and I count my blessings.
6 am – If I’m lucky, Liss is still asleep and I start my workday at home.
7:30 am – Liss gets up and we eat, then she watches me as I do chores – make breakfast, clean dishes, fold laundry.
9 am – She takes her first nap of the day and I get back to work.
10:45 am – She wakes up after an hour and we nurse and work, then I try to occupy her in a toy or a swing until we’re ready for our morning run.
We go out for 20-30 minutes and I try to run for most of it. I love this, I get to do my favorite thing again and I get to take her with me. 🙂
11:30 am – We come back from our run and she is asleep and her dad is ready to take over. I get ready for work quickly and by
Noon – I’m at the office for the day.
3 pm – Pumping at the office. It feels as weird as it sounds. This post pretty much sums it up.
5 :15 pm – Home for the day. We nurse and snuggle until about
6 pm – I make dinner. This is a lot more fun now that I can send my husband grocery shopping. I think grocery shopping is the least fun part of meal making.
7 pm – We start the bedtime ritual. Nursing, then a book, then a lullabye, then I put her down awake. Sometimes that works the first time, but more often than not there are a few visits to her room before she falls asleep.
8 pm – Mom and dad time.
9:30 pm – Bed Time
When I go back to work full-time next week, I expect our runs will either be when she first wakes up for the day, or I’ll do it during my lunch break at work. Long gone are the days when I could run morning, noon or night.
My running pace had picked up a lot since I started running again in earnest 6 weeks ago, but it’s a far cry from the stamina or pace I had at this time last year. My goal now is to go out at least 20 minutes a day, 5 days a week.
