The night before my second marathon, 8 months later

So I’m writing this from lovely Eustis, Maine, the night before the race but I don’t know if it will go up before it happens — the cell reception up here is spotty at best.

So.

I’m ready for tomorrow.

It’s been an exciting 24 hours. Jen threw a little pre-race party on Friday night. I saw some friends then, and again today at packet pickup at the lodge.

I told Jen when I left her company this afternoon that I didn’t know how I’d start this blog post tonight, and she said I should write about how I’m “becoming a Croteau.” She’s been a good friend and put me up with her friend and her aunt, who is also running the race. Thanks, Jen. 🙂

This is a small race compared to the first marathon I did, and even so, I know a lot of people competing tomorrow. It’s very amazing and cool how many runners I’ve met in the short time I’ve been doing this. I have concerns about the long, rural, point-to-point course being lonely, but … it is what it is.

Have I written that it is breathtakingly gorgeous up here?

We took this near Cathedral Pines, the start of the race. I will focus on the beauty and the amazing journey. And I think that my training, a lot of the runs having been solo or partly solo, has prepared me well for that aspect of the race.

I spent the day looking for an extra carrying pocket to put on my fuel belt so I could hold my phone (for music) and my 5 gels. $16 later at Sugarloaf I found the prefect, perfect one. So I have nothing to worry about tomorrow. Not a thing. Except having a good time.

Wish me luck!
