The Nike Factory Store in Freeport == awesome

I want to start this post off by saying that I have not ever, not once, received anything from any company for nice words in this blog because no one reads this blog as I strive for excellent standards in journalism.

That out of the way. I am so in love with the Nike Factory Store in Freeport.

Thanks for the image, Yelp!

Every time I’ve gone in there I’ve always been treated so nice by really helpful staff. And they were so helpful yesterday, they deserve a really nice blog post.

I bought my first pair of shoes there in the winter because … I was out shopping, I needed new shoes, and I was easily seduced by the plush, light foam of the LunarGlide 3+. And that is a pretty great shoe, but its a lot of shoe (even if its very light).

I thought I wanted to try something new. As I blogged earlier this week, I  went back to the Nike Factory Store and was helped by not one, not two, but three different sales people on a busy Saturday afternoon. They weren’t pushy sales people either; they actually stood there and listened to my breathless “I’m going to run a marathon in two weeks!” spiel as began to describe the kind of shoe I was looking for.

The two sales guys recommended the Lunar Glide 2+ – the previous version of the same shoe I was training in — because its got less cushioning than the other shoe but is largely the same. It seemed like a good fit.

BUT.

I ran on Tuesday afternoon (on the dreadmill! It was raining again! WTF?) and it was apparent to me quickly that this shoe was not going to work for me. I felt this sharp pain in my right arch and … it was clear to me why you don’t start new shoes on long runs. Because if you’re going to have a problem with these shoes, you don’t want to find that out when you have a long way back home.

So. Why are you going on, Pattie? Get on to the part that the Nike Factory Store is awesome!

I decided after a mile that these shoes were not working. I don’t know. Maybe I’m used to the arch wrap of the Lunarglide 3s, or maybe these shoes were just too big (I bought the usual size but it seemed to run large).

I called the store up after I left the gym, because I didn’t want to drive a half-hour to Freeport unless I knew they would take the shoes back.

Me: Hi … I don’t have a receipt, but I bought these shoes this weekend and they really aren’t working for me. Can I take them back and return them for my usual shoe?

Sales rep: You don’t have a receipt?

Me: Yeah … and I bought them with cash, too.

Sales rep: OK, let me go look through at all our sales transactions on Saturday afternoon and see if I can find yours.

We went back and forth a few minutes on purchase amounts and sku numbers, and she found my purchase. I drove down there and exchanged the (ran in) shoes without a receipt, no other questions asked.

It was really above and beyond what I would expect for an outlet store.  I really appreciated it.

I came back from Freeport by about 7:30 and finished the last three miles of my workout. Then I did 5.5 miles today. I’m so glad I got my old (new) shoes back.
