It’s national “Married to a Runner Appreciation Day”

According to Runners’ World:

OK, if you follow through to the post, it’s not a very “official” day. And I found it in my quest to find a topic to blog about tonight, so I didn’t bring home flowers or cook a nice dinner (just leftovers) but I’ll make it up to Tony by dedicating this blog post to him.

A recent photo of my man and his other leading lady.

Tony is not a runner. But I couldn’t have achieved my goals without him. There were so many weekends training for the marathon where I would a) be gone for several hours on a run, and then b) dead to the world because I just ran a long-ass distance and he would accept that our social life would revolve around my training schedule. And the conversations I would have with our friends in social outings would revolve around training.

I’m glad we don’t have kids now, because if we did, it would have been hard to make it work, but when we do, I know Tony will be great with them. He would get up and get the puppies ready when I’d be out on my long runs.

It's a tough life, being a pug.

At the marathon, it was pouring rain. Tony wore a cotton jacket and we only had one umbrella. He still let me use the umbrella at the start line, even though he got totally soaked and would have to stay that way for the five hours he waited for me, and I was going to get soaked running anyway. But he did, without complaint, because he’s just that stand-up kinda guy.

He says he "looks like a bum" that day, but he really was awesome.

I’m glad Tony supports me running, and I’ll still hold out a little bit of hope that one day he might run with me too. 😉
