Introducting: Things I learned

I just wrote a crazy long post (pictures, really) about what I looked like before and after the Couch to 5K.

I had a few things up on the blog back when it was on Tumblr, and I’ve posted a few things over time about the progress I was doing, but it was the first overarching progress report I’d done in awhile. It’s funny to look back and think, “back in January, I thought I was so fit and trim … but I was 25 pounds heavier then.”

I wonder how I’ll look back on this in a year. Well, I hope. Also, still under 160 pounds, I hope.

So I came up with a list of guiding principals that have helped me along the way. Here’s a sneak preview:

  1. Think small.
  2. Food is fuel.
  3. It’s the sum of many days, not what you do one day, that counts.
  4. Direct your extra energy towards ensuring your success.
  5. Start with what’s easy.
  6. Make body-oriented, not results-oriented goals.
  7. Every day is a chance to do it right.
  8. Your health is a priority.
  9. Plan ahead.
  10. Recognize (and work towards minimizing) stress.
  11. Accept that there is no such thing as instant results.
  12. ALWAYS eat breakfast.
  13. Get on the scale (only) once a day.
  14. Have a back-up.
  15. You don’t have to buy a lot of gear.
  16. Spot reduction is a myth.
  17. Always be moving.
  18. Eat more plants.
… the first one coming in the next day or so.
I’m on a bus (missed the train. By a minute! DRAT!) to a conference right now. Yoga last night was amazing and relaxing and … actually, a pretty decent workout.
