At the finish line

I did it. I stepped on that scale this morning, and after 7 months, 2 weeks and 5 days from when I “officially” started this journey, I was there.

People asked me, “OK, what’s next?” Don’t get me wrong, there are always things that I’d like to change, but … I’d like to just take the moment to be thankful that I had the strength to get this point. The strength to get up off my ass again and keep trying after spending all of my adult life overweight.

The next challenge is not another lower number on the scale. It’s about living my life under 164 pounds. It’s about staying true to myself (as absolutely cliche and corny as that sounds — give me a break, is a diet blog) and never letting all the other things in my life get more important than my health. That goes for making time to run, or making time to go grocery shopping, or making time to make dinner. Because in the end, without your health you can’t help anyone, least of all yourself.

The reason why I got here this time (I truly believe) and why I have faith that I’ll stay here is that I didn’t focus on a time line, or even the weight, really. I just tried to obey the mantra, “I will do good things for my body every day.” I will make running goals.  I will only eat until I feel satisfied. I will not eat crap. I will do at least one active thing every day. Every day is another chance to do it better. A day missed is just that — one day.

You can do it too. 🙂
