So, I started running.
It was a Thursday evening. I just got off work. I was tired. I was bored. My husband works at night and I have a lot of unstructured time.
I wish that I looked better/felt better about my health. So I started to run.
I can’t really point to one thing that was my “inspiration.” My friend Jana on LiveJournal had been writing about starting the Couch to 5K program. But it wasn’t like she wrote it and right there, I just started running. It was just an idea that had came to my head after she wrote about it a couple times.
I downloaded the app from Run Helper for my iPhone. And I went to the gym. And I got on the treadmill (something that was scary and loud and generally uncomfortable for my 190-pound self). And it was easy (but not too easy).
It’s been 10 weeks since that Thursday, and yesterday I ran 3.6 miles. Before I started the Couch to 5K I don’t think I had ever run for more than a half a mile before, even at my peak physical fitness, and that half a mile was probably the most painful thing I’ve ever done.
Six weeks from now, I’ll be able to run 6 miles.
The thing about running is that its a very peaceful, pensive activity. And I think that’s why so many people have fitness blogs. Because I think about a lot of things when I’m running.
So that’s what this blog will be about. That, and the journey.
